Drew Estate Dirty Rat Cigar

Today, I’m back to present another list in our lineup of The Weekly Cigar “Top” Lists of 2009. This time, I’ll be giving you my list of Top 5 Special Occasion or Expensive Cigars of 2009. To qualify as a special occasion or expensive cigar, the cigar has to be exceedingly rare or cost over $15.00 MSRP. I don’t smoke many of these cigars, but there are occasions when I want to fire up a particularly special cigar. Anyway, on with the list.

La Flor Dominicana Limitado III Cigar Review

30 Nov

This week, I’m reviewing the La Flor Dominicana Limitado III. This is a limited edition cigar put out last year by Litto Gomez. I was gifted this cigar by TexCigars.com, and greatly appreciate their generosity. It was quite windy when I did the review, and I apologize for any sound issues the wind caused. Enjoy the review and, until next time, happy smoking!

The Verdict:

Appearance: 14/15

This is pretty old stick, purchased in 2007. There are a few large veins, but otherwise flawless appearance. This is a beautiful large cigar that appears to be very carefully constructed.

Flavor: 18/25

The smell of the wrapper had a very faint sweetness to it, but was overall a very neutral. The cold taste was also neutral, with a slight bit of raisin and some wood. The first few puffs had notes of leather, wood, black pepper, and dried fruit (raisin). The pepper soon faded out leaving a medium bodied smoke. Leather and wood stayed into the second third, but the sweetness started to fade. As the cigar progressed it took on an increasingly papery character, which caused me to put it out much earlier than I usually do. This cigar was a strong starter that took a nose dive and became extremely bland.

Construction: 23/25

The construction, on the other hand, was top notch, featuring lengthy ashes of nearly 2.5-3″ and an effortless draw. The burn was a little jagged into the second third, but never required correction.

Overall Impression: 29/35

In my opinion, this is a very well made, very bland cigar. I think the age on this stick might have something to do with the lack of flavor, as I remember enjoying this cigar much more when it first launched. The cigar smoked for this review was from 2007, so it will be interesting to see what a fresh one does in comparison.

Final Score: 84/100
