Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero Cigar Review

This week, we have another guest review from our friend Danny Principe. He’s reviewing the Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero, a cigar I sent him to try. The Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero is one of my favorites. One negative Danny mentions is the price tag, but I was able to find a box of these Tatuaje El Triunfador Lanceros on sale (which is now over) for $169, or around $6.75 a cigar. At that price, they were a steal, hence the reason I picked up a box. Enjoy the review!

Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero Cigar

This is a cigar I have been wanting to try for some time, and Johnny was nice enough to send me one in a very generous care package. So without further ado…

The Verdict

Appearance: 12/15
There are several prominent veins and some bunching around them, which make for a pretty rough looking appearance. The cigar is firm with a neat cap, but is not going to be winning any beauty contests. The wrapper had a nice milk chocolate and compost smell to it.

Flavor: 22/25
The cold taste gave notes of pepper and raisin, and the draw felt a bit firm, but opened up perfectly once the cigar was lit. The first third was surprisingly mild, falling into the medium bodied category. Coffee/cocoa, pepper, and leather dominated until the second third, during which the leather faded out and gave way to a softer vanilla flavor. As the cigar progressed further, the body picked up and the pepper became more intense.

Construction: 25/25
The construction was flawless. The burn was razor sharp, the draw had the perfect amount of resistance, and this is exactly how a cigar should be made.

Overall Impression: 32/35
Overall, I was impressed with the Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero. It was rich, relatively complex, and extremely well made. My only qualm is the price tag. At nearly $10 after taxes, I could buy two Oliva Serie V Lanceros instead. Though I plan buy to more, the price is going to keep the El Triunfador from becoming a regular part of my lineup. If this was a $5 or $6 smoke, I would be buying them by the box. Thanks again to Johnny for a fantastic cigar!

Final Score: 91/100

If you review cigars for a living, does that make your purchases tax deductable as a work related expense?
