Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9 Cigar Review

This week, we have a guest review written by our friend Danny, or @DannyP6228 on Twitter. He is reviewing the Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9, which happens to be the cigar I had slated for review later this week. I actually got to interview the owner of Drew Estate, Jonathan Drew. Look for that interview to be posted soon.

The Verdict:

Appearance: 14/15

This cigar is near perfect in appearance. Dark and oily with a perfectly adhered cap. As hard as I try, I can’t find a single flaw aside from a water spot on the wrapper, which really is not a big deal.

Flavor: 23/25

This cigar was absolutely delicious. Leather, earth, and dark chocolate dominated the cigar with a nice balancing sweetness. The cigar was far from complex however, staying the same from start to finish, but when it tastes this great that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Construction: 24/25

The construction was almost perfect as well. This is a robusto sized cigar, and I only ashed it once. The draw was impeccable and yielded enormous plumes of smoke. The only critique I can offer is that it had a slightly wavy burn line, though it never required a correction. This is an very well made cigar, and every Liga Privada I have had has been the exact same way.

Overall Impression: 34/35

I was really wowed by this cigar. It is a radical departure for Drew Estates, a company which I previously had thought to be synonymous with peach flavored cigars for teenagers with fake IDs. I don’t really know what else to say other than this cigar was phenomenal, and is easily a contender for my favorite cigar of the year. The price point ($12) keeps me from buying them as often as I would like to, but if you can find one, grab it. You will not be disappointed. I have had one in the humidor since the line debuted, and it will be interesting to see how it performs with a few years on it.

Final Score: 95/100

I wonder who wrote this fantastic one of a kind review : )

My girlfriend bought be a T52, but I have yet to smoke it. I really cant wait to try the flying pig though. I just cant seem to find them anywhere.

I also have smoked a T-52 and have found it a superbly crafted cigar. The T-52 i found some what similar to the No9. Huge volumes of wonderful smoke from this cigar every draw was to savor as you admired this handsome oily gem. This is what an encounter with a fine cigar should be like every time and my Cuban purchases as of late have been decidedly disappointing. I have a No9 languishing in my humidor which i intend to smoke this evening while a buddy salivates at the aroma of my expected wonderful smoke.

  3. I purchased a box of the Liga Privada about a year and a half back. If you store them properly in 6 months it will be even better than it is now. Excellent smoke.

I love most of Jonathon Drew’s cigars! I was lucky enough to get to try an experimental cigar labeled “S-7″, that eventually evolved into the Chateau Real. However, the S-7 mix proved too expensive to be able to produce in quantity. so I feel privileged for having the opportunity to try one of Jonathon’s top-notch unique creations.

I have several Liga Privada’s that I purchased earlier this year, and as Alan recommended, I am letting them age a bit in my humidor in order to bring out their best!

  5. Great review and awesome picture of the ash!

I really enjoyed the Liga Privada No. 9 Corona Doble. Really well constructed and it didn’t over power me. The taste was really good with some robust flavors of front and a really smooth creamy finish. You can check out my review at:
