Cuban Stock by Crown David Cigar Review

This week, we have another guest review from our friend Andy Picone. He is going to be writing regularly for the site, so I hope you enjoy!

Cuban Stock

Often times I will ask my tobacconist for a recommendation.  We usually walk past the highly marketed well known brands to an out of the way place in the humidor.  Such was the case recently when he handed me a Cuban Stock Royal Selection.  Cuban Stock is made by Crown David International, which also produces Joya de Havana, Exquisto DMS or Limitado and Delicioso, a flavored line.  The Cuban Stock Royal Selection chosen was a Toro (6×50).

Upon first look, I was intrigued by the darker wrapper with its smooth patina, suggesting this leaf of Ecuadorian roots came with some life to it.  Small veins scattered along the back side of this cigar, leaving the face side clean and smooth.  The filler and binder both Dominican, were age for six years in wine barrels.  Impressive. I let the cigar warm for a bit.  Before blastoff, I removing the band that adorned the foot of the cigar then placed flame to tobacco.  The draw was smooth and productive as voluminous amounts of smoke were fashioned.  It burned clean and straight, leaving a trail of an off gray ash; firm.

The Royal Selection began to reach a stride at the half way mark.  My palate was hit with a spicy, pepper and coffee sensation; not sharp by any means, but smooth and satisfying.  A nutty twist started to become apparent, again subtle and creamy.  A lemon/orange citrus essence then surfaced; not shy about making it known.  This was quite a finish to a darn good experience.

Enjoy this cigar with whatever you wish.  I consider this to be a medium plus bodied smoke with enough components to keep the effects of dry champagne, grappa, a light snack or robust sirloin at ease.  The Cuban Stock Royal Selection is one that I will go to often.  This was a nice find.

Enjoy the ride.
