Bolivar Belicosos Finos Cigar Review (Cuban)

This week, we have another guest review from Ryan Collman. He’s reviewing the Bolivar Belicosos Finos, a Cuban cigar with a ring gauge of 52 and a length of 140 millimeters. I hope you enjoy the review and, until next time, happy smoking!

Bolivar Belicosos Finos Cuban Cigar

Size: 52 x 140mm
Country of Origin: Cuba
Box Code: LRE MAR 09
Price: $165 for a box of 25 ($6.60 per single)

Cutter: Xikar Xi
Lighter: Mega Pocket Torch
Drink: Water

Pre-light
Draw: Perfect.
Aroma: Rich cocoa, spice and some cedar
Taste: Milky chocolate with rich tobacco
Construction: Appears to be superb. Decent weight and no noticeable soft spots. The wrapper on this is beautiful.

First third:
Very smooth. Some nice cocoa flavor intermingled with some coffee and sugar cane. The smoke coats the mouth and comes out in huge plumes. So far, so good. The aroma on the smoke is sweet cedar. It’s a very comforting smell. As the first third progresses, it mellows out a bit, gaining tea and citrus flavors, both standard for the Bolivar line.

Second Third:
As the second third begins, sweet sugar cane flavors intermingle with a robust spice and leather. The aroma is still of sweet cedar and the citrus flavor has faded some. The youth of this stick is starting to show with some grassy/green flavors starting to pop up. They aren’t overwhelming the flavor of the cigar, but they are noticeable. A few more puffs and the green flavors are gone and the BBF is back on track, now with more spice and cedar than ever. There is also a unique vanilla flavor that I would liken to a rich creme brulee. It’s very pleasant and complements the other rich flavors in this beautiful belicoso.

Final Third:
As this cigar comes to a close, it continues to be very enjoyable. The aroma is now more of a smoked maltiness and the flavor has gained more tea and sweet notes (cinnamon and vanilla). With less than 2 inches left, the smoke is still very smooth and cool. For only being 10 months old, I am very impressed.

Final Thoughts:
This is an epic smoke and, being my first Bolivar Belicosos Finos, I am very excited about the rest of my box. With a few more months, these will be superb cigars (although they are already great). It’s a classic vitola from a classic brand and, if you are a Cuban cigar lover or just a lover of fine tobacco, this is a must have in your humidor and an excellent deal when compared to higher end non-Cuban cigars.
