Top 11 Cigars of 2009 by Danny, Guest Cigar Reviewer
This week, we have another article from one of our guest reviewers, Danny. In this article, he writes about his Top 11 Cigars of 2009. Enjoy!
11. Camacho Connecticut Monarca
Great mild/medium bodied cigar. The Honduran tobacco gives it a very unique kick, making for one of the best Connecticut shade sticks in recent memory.
10. Avo Comanero LE 2009
Hands down the best Avo LE to date, in my opinion. A bit expensive, but well worth the price of admission.
9. Illusione MJ12
Pretty wild presentation, but great flavor and solid construction make the MJ12 a steal at under $8.
8. Tatuaje Cojonu 2009
The best Cojonu since 2003. I would go as far as to say it is one of Pete’s best cigars, but it is still a little overpriced.
7. Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9 Robusto
I was floored when I found out Drew Estate made this cigar. A radical departure for the company, and one of the best tasting cigars of the year.
6. Fuente Anejo Shark No. 77
This box pressed beauty can be hard to find, but it is well worth the effort. Awesome smoke right out of the box. I just wish I had bought more.
5. Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill
One of the best tasting cigars I have ever had. I would have ranked it higher, but they are very inconsistent in the burn and draw departments.
4. Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro
Perfect burn, perfect draw, Padron flavor. Enough said.
3. Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios
Extremely overpriced (like most Cohibas) but this cigar is just tremendous. It shows a bit of youth, and should mellow considerably with age. I would love to see more Cuban maduros in the future.
2. Montecristo Petit Edmundo
Far more consistent than many other Cuban cigars, the Monte Petit Edmundo is not only one of the best tasting and best performing Cuban cigars this year, it is also one of the best values.
1. Padron 45th Anniversary Reserva de la Familia
This cigar is an absolute masterpiece. Flawless construction, and unparalleled flavor make this not only the best cigar of the year, but, in my opinion, one of the best cigars of all time.
Biggest Disappointment:
Nub Maduro
Runner Up: Kristoff Sumatra
Best Bargain:
CAO La Traviata
Runner Up: Cain F
Most Underrated:
Los Blancos Nine
Runner Up: 601 Black Label
Most Overrated:
Fuente Fuente Opus X
Runner Up: Cain Maduro

good list. i agree with bottom 2 and most overrated.
Great list!
Hi guys,
Nice, well-thought out list. Please try P.G. 20th Anniversary “Symphony” for an unbelievable high-end smoke. For an outstanding moderately priced cigar (around $8.00)sample the Villiger “1888″ robusto. For a very good inexpensive cigar, I like Oliva “G” cameroon and Jesus Fuego “777″ corojo.
Thanks for supporting our wonderful cigar culture.
