The Weekly Cigar “Top” Lists of 2009
It’s that time of year again. The time of year when people start coming out with their “Top” whatever number it may be lists. I both love and hate these lists. On one hand, I think some of these lists, especially Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars list, cause WAY too much of a craze. Around this time last year, Cigar Aficionado crowned Casa Magna as the “Number One Cigar of 2008″ and catapulted the cigar into overnight stardom. Because of this, the cigar was sold out for quite some time after the list was released, and it became a chore to try and get your hands on a few.
I don’t like this trend in the cigar industry. I think these lists should be used as a way to tell others about your favorite cigars, but should not be viewed as a list of absolutes. The beauty of this industry, and any industry revolving around taste and flavor, is that everyone’s palate is different. One person’s favorite cigar could be the next person’s least favorite. I am still going to publish my lists, but I wanted to have this paragraph as some sort of disclaimer, if you will. Anyway, on to the lists.
Here on The Weekly Cigar, I’ve decided to get together a few different lists. By doing this, I hope that at least one list will be interesting to every one of my viewers. My lists will include the following:
- Top 5 Cigar Companies of 2009 (published on 01/07/10)
- Top 10 Cigars of 2009 (published on 01/08/10)
- Top 5 Budget Cigars of 2009 (published on 01/09/10)
- Top 5 Special Occasion/Expensive Cigars of 2009 (published on 01/10/10)
- Top 6 Favorite Cigar Shops/Bars of 2009 (published on 01/11/10)
Now, would you look at that. I even have a list of my lists. This is getting a little crazy, so let’s move on to the main attraction.

Am I missing how to view these lists?
Sorry, Brad. I guess I forgot to mention that I will be publishing these on consecutive days. I’m adding dates to the post as we speak.
I would like some of these bloggers who have Top Ten Lists to tell us how many boxes of their #1 cigar they have smoked and in what time frame.
It would be tough for me to get through an entire box very quickly since I am constantly reviewing new cigars.
