Fraoch Heather Ale Scottish Gruit Beer Review
This week, Ryan and I review the Fraoch Heather Ale, a Scottish Gruit brewed by Williams Brothers Brewing Company in Scotland. This was an interesting beer, and was our first Gruit. We got a little silly in this review with the terrible Scottish accent, hope you enjoy it!

Visited Scottland in October 2010. Stayed at a Bed & Breakfast in Edinburh called Fraoch House–and the owner’s mother is named Heather.
Later read about this beer and kicking myself I didn’t track it down while there.
It’s available here in the States, I found it here at a Total Wine. Sounds like a great trip!
I’m really surprised that the heather didn’t impart a stronger floral flavor. I wonder if the aromatics have faded while it aged sitting around in the import containers. It’d be interesting to hear from someone who’s had it fresh. However the more I listen to brewing podcasts the more I realize that in many nations even the “craft” breweries are trying to compete with the big brands by creating light tasteless beer. This may just be another example of that trend.
