Beer Glassware Series : Beer Steins
Welcome to our newest section on Beer Review Dude, entitled “Beer Glassware”. In this series, we will be discussing different types of beer glasses used historically to drink beer. Our first article will be on the beer stein, one of the most iconic styles of beer glassware in existence.
The first beer steins were made out of stone; in fact, the word “stein” in German is an abbreviation of the word “steingut”, or stoneware. Germans switched over to glass steins at the 1892 Oktoberfest for hygienic reasons. Also, when you think of a traditional beer stein, you probably think of one with a lid. While lids have gone out of style, they served their purpose well, which was to keep bugs and germs out of your beer.
